Stretching from the Southern Great Barrier Reef in the east to the Sandstone Wilderness in the west, our region follows the line of the Tropic of Capricorn from the Capricorn Coast, through the city of Rockhampton and reaching out to the Central Queensland Highlands’ township of Emerald.

Road

The Capricorn Coast region is approximately 630km north of the state capital of Brisbane. Many of the major touring routes lead directly to Rockhampton and on to Yeppoon or to Central Queensland Highlands. These include:

  • Pacific Coast Way
  • Leichhardt Way
  • Capricorn Way
  • Australia’s Country Way
  • Great Inland Way (Central Queensland Highlands)

Air (Rockhampton Airport)

QantasLink and Virgin Australia fly direct from Brisbane with connections on to all other major ports.

Spirit of Queensland visits Rockhampton on its Brisbane to Cairns journey.
Tilt Train departs Brisbane six days a week to Rockhampton.

Getting Around

Central Queensland is an easy self-drive destination, however if driving isn’t your go to transport method, here’s all you need to know… If you are flying into Emerald or Rockhampton or arriving by rail or bus, then there’s numerous options to get you around.

Getting to the Keppel Islands (Great Keppel Island)

Getting to Great Keppel Island: Freedom Fast Cats departs from Pier One, John Howes Drive Rosslyn Bay and Keppel Konnections departs from Keppel Bay Marina, Rosslyn Bay, Red Jetty.
Both offer daily services to and from Great Keppel Island.

Getting to Pumpkin Island: The Pumpkin Express operates Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Arrivals and departures are tide dependent so make sure you know the times of transfers when booking and making travel arrangements.
